Validating a Submission

Submission data can be easily validated in File-to-SEC to ensure that all data fields contain legal values, that all required fields contain values, and that all EDGARized files are SEC-Compliant. You may validate submission data at any time during the submission creation process.

To validate submission form data, use one of the following method(s):

o    Submission Menu:

Validate Button

Description: validate

The following page will appear:

  1. Results

This area will contain the results of the validation. Any errors found will be listed here.

  1. Validate

Click this button to validate the form data.

The Validate function will automatically validate the submission when navigating to this screen and will list all errors or warnings that were found.

Tip: File-to-SEC’s Page Validator will prevent most errors involving invalid values from occurring on submissions created using File-to-SEC. The Page Validator checks form data values each time you attempt to change form information pages. If a value is invalid on the page, a warning will appear, informing you that a field contains an invalid value. An example warning follows:

Description: filetosec_example_error2

Click ‘Yes’ to continue to a page without correcting the error. If you select ‘No’, the program will remain on the page with the error. The Page Validator will not display errors if required fields contain no values.

It is recommended that all errors found by the Page Validator be corrected before continuing to a new page.

Warning: Even though SEC Publisher displays warning notices, you are still able to file the ASCII documents to SEC. See the screenshot below for an example of a warning notice.

Tab is a legal character for SEC filing. If you file an ASCII document which contains tabs, the SEC will simply replace tabs with spaces.

To avoid receiving this warning notice, please refrain from pressing the Tab key in the ASCII Editor.

The Validate page will retain any error messages until you validate the submission again. Changing pages in File-to-SEC will not clear the Validation page. Closing the submission file or opening a new submission file will clear the error messages on the Validation page.

Warning: The Validate function will not validate the authenticity of entered data. It is recommended that you submit a Test filing prior to a Live submission.
